PCG have the open source products and the expertise to help you improve your internet presence. Whether you're looking for a really simple CMS that is easy to use, or a powerful content management framework, we can provide you with innovative, reliable and secure products all backed up with a warranty and ongoing support.

The PCG Digital Platform

We have delivered dozens of CMS-driven websites and portals since we started and we know what works and what doesn't. You can be confident that we will offer you the best possible solution for your specific needs.

Our Content Management System of choice is Umbraco, a .Net-based CMS. We have spent some time extending and enhancing the CMS to create a Digital Platform, specifically designed to meet the needs of the UK Public Sector.

Umbraco Registered Partner

PCG have also implemented a range of other open source content management tools, including Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress and Tribiq, where appropriate.

Best Practice

We do not believe that using open source means you need to compromise on standards. All our implementations will comply with the relevant industry standards, including:

  • World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
  • Website Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
  • eGIF
  • eGMS
  • Data Protection Act and GDPR

The CMS framework incorporates a level of functionality beyond straightforward Content Management functionality. Most notable is its ability to act as the primary management and delivery mechanism for a Portal by enabling the 5 primary elements of Portal functionality:

1. Personalisation and User registration

Users are registered on a front-end database, which can have varying levels of security and can ultimately be linked to directory services such as Windows or LDAP3.0. The user profiles are then stored with a wide range of data, detailing access rights and privileges (if appropriate) and/or interests and preferences. The Personalisation engine can also automatically recognise returning users. In a similar way, security access to extranet and other secured applications can also be controlled through this solution.

2. Application extensions

The concept of application extensions runs throughout the CMS solution. Application extensions are embeddable applications that can be published in any piece of content or template that will deliver interactive or dynamic services. The standard set of components shipped with the solution include FAQ engine, Classified engine, A-Z index (services etc.), syndication components, site map, dynamic menus, interfaces to forums and chat, personalisation components, metadata driven components and a link tool kit.

3. Communities, Forums, and Microsites

An unlimited number of forums and chat is supported. The Forums are fully integrated within the website and threads, pools, questionnaires etc. may be embedded within any page. A simplified editor to allow the distributed editing of sections or mini-sites amongst a diverse community with a variety of skill levels is also included.

4. Searching

Site wide searching categorised into any number of collections and categories is provided. Additionally indexing of other resources such as PDF, ZIP files, databases and external websites is provided. See our search page for more information.

5. Interconnectivity

Connectivity to other systems is provided through a wide range of services, including:

  • Software Objects
  • EJB
  • Java Class
  • Corba
  • XML files
